It's not too early to begin thinking of all those Holidays ahead, or of bringing an elegant look to your entertainment table. We always favor the raised applied gold enamel plates as you probably have noticed, and here we've got a beautiful set of 8 that are both elegant and affordable for most.
The sets we've had in the past from Limoges, Mintons, Royal Worcester and etc. This set has 10 beautiful 9 plates which is advised for dinner service now if you want to hold down the calories our plates are SO big!
, but they're actually considered luncheon plates, can be used as salad plates. And as you can see, they're as gorgeous as they are affordable. The mark on the back of these tells us they're made by England's lauded maker, Minton, and that they were made for one of NYC's luxury purveyors at the Belle Epoche turn-of-the-century 1900, Theodore B. Starr was primarily known as a silversmith, as was the case for Tiffany at the time, too. But their stores paired their own creations with beautiful compliments from other fine makers, and offered a selection within which their silver goods really clicked. Starr company was open from 1862 - 1900, after which time he was joined by Herman Marcus. So we know this set is pre-1900. A simple elegant broad band of cobalt blue (sorry if our images make that deep blue seem closer to black - it's deep navy/cobalt blue), and with a border decoration in gold accented by an inner rim of gold and outer border rim of gold - just lovely for any table and perfect to set off your fine sterling silver at table, too (or silver plate). With the Holidays ahead, a perfect time to add to your sets for stunning layering. Sure to end up on Pinterest''table settings' posts!
Very good to excellent condition throughout. The set has been used, shows some signs of use in a little rub here or there on the gold, perhaps a tiny utensil mark - not much at all and not enough to mar your enjoyment of the set, but just enough to make them a great deal. Heritage isn't only for the wealthy, after all.
